Chiefs give reports

New Tripoli Fire Chief Peter Christ reported at the board’s Dec. 14 meeting that the fire company responded to 168 calls to date, a record number for the fire company.

He also noted the renovation project at the fire station is moving along and construction should start in spring 2018.

They anticipate having the first function in the new structure on Sept. 29, 2018, with the entire building finished by October 2018.

Several of the firefighters received certification in different areas.

Kyle Watson completed Pump II, Jeff Czonstka finished Fire Instructor I, Ryan Williams did Fire Officer I while seven junior firefighters are attending Mod I classes at Mack South.

Lynnport Fire Chief Clark Mantz noted they had one call in November and two junior firefighters will start training in January 2018.

Mike Casey was present to discuss the township’s pension program.

The current plan will be terminated and a new plan initiated.

The board will poll those involved to ascertain the direction the plan should proceed.

The road crew is readying the equipment for winter.

The crew trimmed trees on Behler Road, Strawberry Court, Pleasure Court and Slateville and Sweitz roads.

Construction on basketball and volleyball courts at Ontelaunee Park is expected to begin in spring 2018.

Christopher Wentz has entered 23.7 acres and .3 acres of his property into the agriculture security area.

A request for a waiver of the isolation distance of a well to a septic system for property at 7195 Flint Hill Road was discussed by the board.

Supervisors agreed to forward the request to engineer Chris Noll for his review.

Fry and Company was designated as township auditor for the year at a fee of $7,000.

Supervisor Brian Dietrich suggested supervisors should have a dinner for all board and committee members, and employees as well as elected officials and others involved in the township to show their appreciation for the work they do.

The request was tabled until the next meeting.

Chairman Justin Smith noted the most requested variance on the zoning hearing board’s agenda was on impervious lot coverage.

He suggested this section be reviewed and possibly changed to allow more leeway.

The township’s reorganization meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2, 2018.

Township auditors will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 3, 2018.
