Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is physics because the topics and ideas interest me while also involving problem solving and real world applications.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. The award I am most proud of achieving is the rank of Eagle Scout which I received earlier this year. At EHS, I have been on the Principal’s Honor Roll every marking period and I have received the Award of Academic Excellence each year. I am also a member of National Honor Society and French Honor Society.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. My extracurricular activities include playing volleyball with Club Lehigh and as a member of the Emmaus boys varsity volleyball team. I am a member of Student Government Association, Student Athlete Leadership Team, Red Cross Club, French Club and Outdoor Adventure Club. This year I have created a club called the Fine Cheese and Finer Conversation Club for which I am also the president, vice president and secretary. I also sing as a bass in the all-male a capella group, Fermata Nowhere, as well as the EHS Select choir and Chorale. However, I think my most “excellent” extracurricular activity is Scrubs basketball.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school is to be successful during my freshman year of college and to pursue a major in mechanical engineering.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. The biggest challenge I have faced was coordinating my Eagle Scout Project. For my project, I worked with the Red Cross to run two of their Home Fire Preparedness Campaign events. One event was in Emmaus and the other was in Allentown. These events involved 30 to 40 volunteers being split up into smaller teams and then being sent out into the community to offer free smoke alarm installations to those in need. I was in charge of preparing and running the event and leading the volunteers. It was no easy task, but in the end, it taught me many valuable lessons about leadership and also helped make the community a safer place.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for being an optimistic and charismatic person my friends can rely on as well as a person who stands out because of my determination, creative thinking, hard work and sense of humor.

Q. Who is in your family?

A. My mother’s name is Caryn and my father’s name is Marc. My older brother and sister are Ted and Claire. We are a pet free household… thanks mom.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my father for being someone who I can look up to and can trust knowing that he will always be doing the right thing. He has always pushed me and made sure that I am on track. I respect him for his values and I learn from him every day.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Much of our generation is wrapped up with technology, specifically smart phones, but I just want to remind everyone that we are only seniors in high school once. Smart phones distract us from making full connections with each other, and many of us have known each other for the majority of our lives. After this year, it very well may be the last time we see each other, so take a moment every once in a while to stop texting, snap chatting or tweeting, and appreciate the moment for what it is.
