SALISBURY HIGH SCHOOL

On Dec. 16 members of the Key Club at Salisbury High School hosted a holiday party for children from both Harry S Truman and Western Salisbury elementary schools.

The party featured activities for the children to participate in while their family shopped for holiday gifts. These activities included playing games in the gym and creating Christmas tree, Santa Claus and reindeer crafts.

The Key Club volunteers do many community activities throughout the year. Volunteers babysit at PTA and PTO meetings, so parents are able to discuss school issues. Volunteers also provide water to competitors during local races.

During an event called Light The Night, volunteers set up lanterns to support community members who are dealing with cancer either themselves or who knew someone who had cancer. Key Club student volunteers also help students with disabilities play games during the Special Olympics, and of course, plan and run the annual holiday party.

Students at SHS participate in Key Club for a number of reasons. Whether it is to spend time with their classmates or to give back to their community through volunteering, all of the members enjoy the ability to volunteer while also having fun in the process.

This year at the holiday party in the spirit of giving not only did the students help elementary school children create crafts, but the Key Club members also made paracord bracelets for the military. The Key Club created a total of 60 paracord bracelets.

Key Club students strongly encourage more parents to take advantage of the party next December, as so many of the children enjoyed the event.
