Board says no to casinos

There will be no mini casinos in Weisenberg Township.

Under the new state law, if a municipality does not want casinos in its jurisdiction, supervisors must pass a resolution stating so.

Hence, Weisenberg supervisors adopted a resolution preventing casinos from being built in the township.

This resolution had to be adopted before the end of 2017.

Supervisors also adopted the 2018 budget at their Dec. 11 meeting.

There were no questions or comments from any of the residents.

There will be no tax increase in the township.

Any property within 750 feet of a fire hydrant will be assessed a fee of around $30.

The junk problem at the Bear property appears to have been taken care of. Supervisors decided to cancel any legal action, but cautioned the property owner any future activity would be prosecuted.

The Hunt Meadows escrow fund was decreased by $45,700 leaving a $104,826 balance in the account.

Requests for proposal will be accepted by the board for an auditor or auditing firm to audit the books.

The fireworks permit fee will remain at $25, but escrow for the fire company service will be raised to $500 from $250.

Sean Sprossell was recognized by the board for the work at the township building.

He rebuilt the handicap ramp and did some other jobs as his Eagle Scout project.

The NYAA wants a shed erected at the Bachelor Road recreation area.

This would be used to store equipment used on the fields.

Palram will be donating money for purchase of evergreens at the park and will take care of the planting.

Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Company reported firefighters responded to 169 calls for the year.
