Two 15-year-old boys are being detained in a juvenile facility after the Parkland School District received information Dec. 4 of possible threatening action to be initiated by two students at the high school before the Christmas break.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin and South Whitehall Township Chief John Christman announced the investigation regarding the threat via email on Dec. 11.

According to Martin’s office, information concerning this threat was given to South Whitehall police Dec. 4, and an immediate investigation was begun.

South Whitehall police were assisted by the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office and the Allentown office of the FBI.

As a result of the investigation, the two juveniles were taken into custody Dec. 6.

They appeared before a juvenile hearing officer of the Court of Common Pleas of Lehigh County on Dec. 8, and have been detained in a juvenile facility.

Both juveniles are alleged to have committed delinquent acts.

There is an adjudication hearing scheduled on these matters Dec. 14 in juvenile court.

According to Martin’s office, there is no longer any known or suspected threat against Parkland High School as a result of this alleged incident.

Superintendent Richard Sniscak issued the following comment: “Parkland High School has been the subject of multiple rumors, most recently today, threats via social media in an attempt to threaten the health, safety and welfare of students and staff,” Sniscak wrote. “In all instances, these rumors/threats have been investigated, and students that have violated school district policy by threatening our school community have been disciplined and reported to legal authorities.

“We understand the anxiety this creates for families, students and staff, but we are limited in what can be shared publicly regarding student discipline.

“During these types of circumstances, the Parkland Administration and the legal authorities remain in constant communication and our sole purpose is focused on maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students and staff.

“Please understand that our communication with parents and the media may be limited when police are leading an investigation.

If there were concerns that warranted the closing of school(s), we would communicate that to families promptly as we have in the past.”
