The Good Shepherd Home - Raker Center in Allentown and the Good Shepherd Home - Bethlehem each received a ranking of five stars overall in U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 - 2018 Best Nursing Homes. The rankings highlight facilities in the United States providing high-quality care.

Best Nursing Homes profiles more than 15,000 facilities and ranks them by state, using data and quality ratings from the federal government. Facilities that ranked highest in Best Nursing Homes 2017 - 2018 received overall five-star ratings. Fifteen percent of the facilities that U.S. News rated achieved “Top Performing” status. Only the top-performing homes are eligible to display a U.S. News-trademarked 2017-18 Best Nursing Homes badge.

Since 1908, Good Shepherd has provided long-term care for persons with severe neurological and physical disabilities. Today, Good Shepherd offers long-term, residential care at its two facilities that have a total of 159 beds. Good Shepherd’s long-term care facilities are home to individuals with severe disabilities who require 24-7 nursing care. Residents of the Good Shepherd Home - Raker Center and Good Shepherd Home - Bethlehem have diagnoses such as multiple sclerosis, brain injury, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury and muscular dystrophy.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Nursing Homes rankings are compiled based on their own analysis of data posted by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Best Nursing Homes has several enhancements designed to make the ratings more meaningful to consumers than CMS’s star ratings, including evaluating a nursing home’s performance over time by averaging the CMS star ratings during a 12-month period, plus greater emphasis on medical quality measures and on providing rehabilitation services.

Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, based in Allentown, is a nationally-recognized rehabilitation leader, offering a continuum of care for persons with physical and cognitive disabilities. Good Shepherd treats 65,000 patients annually at more than 60 locations in nine Pennsylvania counties.
