Hear “A Child’s Christmas”:For its annual Christmas concert, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem presents the first concert performance of its CD, “A Child’s Christmas in Bethlehem,” 8 p.m. Dec. 9, First Presbyterian Church, Allentown, and 4 p.m. Dec. 10, First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem. Joining The Bach Choir of Bethlehem, directed by Greg Funfgeld, is The Bel Canto Children’s Chorus, led by Joy Hirokawa. Along with the Choir, the children offer spoken word and uplifting choral music from many centuries and cultures centered on the story of the Nativity that creates a meditation on the meaning of Christmas. The spoken word selections, compiled by Bridget George, are directed by Jenny Gilrain. The program includes traditional favorites, including “No?l Novelet,” “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” Tom Goeman’s arrangement of “O Holy Night” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols,” with David Newman, baritone soloist. Visit “SantaLand”:Civic Theatre of Allentown presents its second annual production of “The SantaLand Diaries,” Dec. 8-17, Theatre 514, Allentown. The one-man comedy written by David Sedaris and adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello, stars Jarrod Yushauskas, who reprises his role, and is again directed by Will Morris. The alternative holiday show is about the author’s experiences as an unemployed writer taking a job costumed as an Elf assisting Santa Claus in the Christmas display at Macy’s Herald Square Store in New York City. 25th “Russian Nutcracker”:The 25th anniversary North American Tour of Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker,” 2 and 6 p.m. Dec. 10, State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, features leading soloists from the world-renowned Mariinsky Ballet Theatre, Kiev National Theater, Perm Ballet Theater, Odessa State Academic Ballet Theatre, and the Almaty State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Never before have so many ballerinas and dancers from the highest-regarded ballet theaters across Russia been assembled in a tour to more than 130 United States and Canadian cities. The production features a 60-foot Christmas tree, seven backdrops highlighting Russian heritage, 10-foot tall puppets, 40 dancers, and 100 costumes.
