Students of Month named
Northampton Exchange Club kicked off its 2017-18 Student of the Month program at the Nov. 1 dinner meeting, held at Northampton Banquet & Event Center. Four Northampton Area High School seniors were cited as honorees.
The honorees are Nicole Somers, September Girl of the Month; Chase Clapp, September Boy of the Month; Morgan Mullen, October Girl of the Month; and Austin Frey, October Boy of the Month.
Club President Lisa Veiszlemlein said the students were cited for their academic and scholastic achievements. They will be eligible for Student of the Year by submitting an essay on a theme selected by the National Exchange Club.
Each of the students received a lamp of knowledge plaque, certificate and pen.
Nicole Somers, September Girl of the Month, is part of National Honor Society, Distributive Clubs of America (DECA) (state qualifier), Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), German Club, Volunteer Club, PE Club, high school chorus, girls swimming and girls lacrosse (district qualifier) teams and is a peer tutor.
Chase Clapp, September Boy of the Month, is part of National Honor Society (president), DECA, Student Council (class representative), Keystone Community Advisory Board, Current Events Club, Imagineering workshop, the tech, football and track teams, the innovative leadership residency and Lehigh University’s Makerspace.
Morgan Mullen, October Girl of the Month, is part of National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), SADD, Student Council (president), PE Club, Volunteer Club, Yearbook Club, Outdoor Club, girls lacrosse, girls track and field hockey (captain) teams, Coordinated Health Player of the Week and is a Dwight D. Eisenhower Award recipient.
Austin Frey, October Boy of the Month, is part of National Honor Society, DECA, Debate Club, PE Club, Science Olympiad, boys volleyball team, stage crew and is a library aide and girls volleyball manager.
