Allentown Central Catholic High School held Viking Christmas and Fall Open House Nov. 12 and both events were huge successes.

Students, teachers and parents sold specialized Central goods and apparel while sharing information about clubs and activities with prospective families. These families were also given tours of the school by Viking Mentors, a group of students serving as advisers to incoming students. All who were in attendance greatly enjoyed the event.

Central Catholic’s 2017 fall sports season concluded with the Vikette volleyball team taking second place in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association State Championships. The team defeated Garden Spot 3-0 in the quarterfinals and West York 3-2 in the semifinals. On Nov. 18, the girls competed against Knoch High School in Johnston and lost 2-3 after five challenging sets.

The drama club will present “Snow Angel” 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 in Masson Auditorium. There are adult and student ticket prices. Students must present a student ID. Doors will open 30 minutes before the show.

The Central City Project held a Thanksgiving-themed community dinner Nov. 15 at Immaculate Conception Church in Allentown. Students and teachers cooked and served food to members of the Allentown community in a restaurant-style atmosphere. The night was full of good food and good spirits.

The debate and Scholastic Scrimmage teams have started their seasons and are faring well. The debate team’s record is 7-5 after matches against Emmaus, Parkland and Whitehall; Scholastic Scrimmage’s Eastern Pennsylvania Conference record is 11-1. Students on both teams anticipate successful and enjoyable seasons.

Central Catholic seniors recently embarked on the Kairos XVI retreat. The four-day retreat took place at the Jesuit Center in Wernersville and focused on students’ relationships with God, others and self.

A lehighvalleylive poll named the Viking Football team wide receiving corps as the best in the area. The unit consisted of George Hlavac, sophomore, Justin Pasquale, junior and Jack Yanders, senior, all of whom were very successful during the 2017 season. Hlavac had 14 catches for 167 yards and a touchdown; Pasquale received 44 passes for 578 yards and a score; and Yanders secured 23 catches for 323 yards and three touchdowns.

The boys lacrosse team will hold a “LAX & LAGER” Beer Tasting Social at Fegley’s Brew Works, 812 Hamilton St. Allentown, 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 30. Admission includes five flights of beer and light fare. A raffle and 50/50 drawing will also take place. Tickets can be purchased from members of the boys lacrosse team or at the door. The event is for ages 21 and older only.
