Upper Milford Township Supervisors approved a resolution Nov. 16 to ask the Upper Milford Township Planning Commission to review traffic concerns that might come with the new Wawa convenience store planned for Emmaus.

While decisions on the project are all being made by Emmaus, Upper Milford Supervisor Robert Sentner is concerned more traffic on busy Chestnut Street will be a problem felt in Upper Milford.

“There’s going to be a lot of traffic,” Sentner said.

Supervisors also approved 2-0 a resolution to endorse the Southwestern Lehigh County Comprehensive Plan 2017. Supervisor Daniel Mohr was absent from the meeting.

Supervisors also listened to citizens with complaints about what their neighbors are doing.

Paul Sarver Jr. said an adjacent property owner has put up a fence between their properties, but the fence is on the property line without regard for the required setback distance. He had a list of other issues with the neighbor regarding hunting and driveways.

The supervisors agreed to look into the issue of the fence, but referred Sarver to other state agencies to resolve most of his concerns. Editor’s Note: Following the meeting, Christine Sarver called The Press to report the fence had been moved and the neighbor was willing to work with the Sarvers to resolve the issues.

Robert Dennis described the logging operations near his property as “mass destruction” and that it is “terribly sad” as he spoke of the fate of the old-growth wood forest now a landscape of heavy equipment tracks and piles of brushwood. “It’s totally destroyed,” he said.

In other business, Sentner was concerned fire trucks could not quickly find some properties if there were a fire because they are not marked with house numbers. “Is there anyway to make people display their addresses?” he asked.

Township Manager Dan DeLong said the requirement to have addresses displayed applies to new construction.

“Believe or not, some people in this township don’t want to be found,” DeLong said.

Emmaus Public Library Board President Lisa Martin said the library will hold a holiday book sale and a wine and cheese reception 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Margaret Knoll Gardner Room, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus.

Outgoing Supervisor George DeVault welcomed Supervisor–elect Joyce Moore to the board. “Welcome aboard, Joyce,” DeVault said. “You have a enviable record of public service.”

Moore was a Glendon Borough Council vice president 1990 to 1996. She is currently president of Joyce Moore Financial Services.
