Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is computer science. I have enjoyed tinkering with computers all my life and I am thankful for the strong computer science program at EHS which has vastly furthered my skills.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a National Merit Semifinalist. I received a 2017 AP Scholar with Honor Award and I am a Rensselaer Medal recipient. I have achieved Principal’s Honor Roll for all marking periods so far at EHS. I auditioned for and was selected to join the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s District 10 Band, Region 5 Band and All-State Band in both my sophomore and junior years. I was the team leader of the five-member senior division team that competed in the American Computer Science League International All-Star Contest held this past year in Newbury Park, Calif., where we earned first place, defeating many private academies and magnet schools from around the U.S. and as far away as Romania.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I am the president of the American Computer Science League at EHS. I compete in math contests as a member of the Pennsylvania Math League. I am a member of the Emmaus cross country team. I am a member of both National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. I am the convergence editor of the Emmaus student-run newspaper, “The Stinger.” I am a member of Interact Club and also volunteer at my church as a choir member, instrumentalist and altar server. I have been a member of the EHS Jazz Band since my freshman year. I also play trumpet in the Brass Quintet of the Young People’s Philharmonic.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I plan to attend college for a degree in either computer science or computer engineering. I hope to become a computer software engineer.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I consider time management to be my biggest challenge. Being a student in honors and AP classes involves a lot of work, but I gradually learned how to prioritize my time and manage stress. Each year of high school has seemed progressively easier for me.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I want to be remembered for my enthusiasm to help others, especially with technology-related issues.

Q. Who is in your family?

A. My dad’s name is Stephen, and my mom’s name is Tracey. I have a sister, Stephanie, in ninth grade. Our Boston Terrier’s name is Libby.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. In addition to my parents who provide me with everything I need to succeed, I admire Steve Jobs. While he was far from perfect as a person, I marvel at his drive for innovation. As Apple used to say, he would “think different.”

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. To my peers I would say, try computer science! The skills can be valuable in virtually any profession. Why not take advantage of EHS’s fantastic program?
