Central Catholic celebrated Senior Week Oct. 23 to 27. The week consisted of themed attire days just for seniors, including college shirt day, decades day and costume day. Other events included a scavenger hunt around the school, movie night, senior Olympics and a tailgate before school.

Vikette Volleyball swept Southern Lehigh 3-0 in the District XI Class 3A Championship Nov. 2 to win their third straight district title. The victory came after a loss to Liberty in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference final, making their district win all the more meaningful. On Nov. 7, the team defeated Merion Mercy 3-0 in the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District XI 3A State Championship. The Vikettes competed against Garden Spot in the quarter finals Nov. 11.

Allentown Central Catholic Girls Cross Country performed exceptionally at the PIAA State Championship in Hershey Nov. 4. The team came in second place with a score of 139. Senior Emily Deschler finished fifth and senior Alyssa Deschler placed 17th.

The football team finished its regular season with the Holy War versus Bethlehem Catholic. After a close game, the Vikings accepted a loss with a final score of 38-37. The Vikings advanced to the PIAA District XI 4A Semifinal Nov. 4, playing Saucon Valley. Central was defeated with a final score of 41-10 to end the 2017 season.

The Fall Sports Awards Mass will take place 9:45 a.m. Nov. 17. After Mass, the school will recognize the varsity fall sports athletes and their achievements and will award varsity letters.

Winter sports begin Nov. 17. All athletes must have a PIAA physical (Sections 1-6) on file in the athletic training room and must complete an ImPACT test, a baseline concussion test taken every two years. Any athletes who played a fall sport must fill out a PIAA re-certification, Section 7 form. More information can be found at acchs.info.

Central’s commitment to community service continues throughout November. The Key Club held a red, white and blue dress down day Nov. 10 to honor our nation’s veterans. Proceeds went to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. National Honor Society will hold a canned food drive for Catholic Charities through Nov. 17. Any student who donates five items will earn a dress down day Nov. 22.

The Central City Project will hold its first community dinner 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15 at Immaculate Conception Church in Allentown. The Thanksgiving-themed meal will be prepared and served by Central students and teachers. The dinner serves as a way to strengthen the connection between Central and the homeless community.

The Kairos XVI Retreat will take place Nov. 19 to 22 at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Wernersville. The retreat, which is available exclusively to seniors, is a four-day event that “focuses on students’ relationships with self, others and God,” states the school website. The retreat is led by campus ministers, faculty and selected senior leaders.

Central Catholic will begin the Thanksgiving break Nov. 22 with an early dismissal 11:30 a.m. The students will return Nov. 28. Picture retakes will be held Nov. 29.
