Dougherty returns to District 2 seat

Incumbent Lehigh County Commissioner Percy H. Dougherty, a Republican, will be returning to his seat representing residents in District 2.

According to Lehigh County Voter Registration, Dougherty garnered an unofficial 6,211 votes in Tuesday’s Municipal Election to the unofficial 5,080 votes received by Shoaib Chaudhary, a Democrat.

With 100 percent of the districts reporting, Dougherty took 54.87 percent of the vote to Chaudhary’s 44.88 percent of the votes cast.

During the campaign, Dougherty told The Press he understands the problems seniors face.

”As a commissioner, I support our high quality programs: Aging and Adult Services, senior housing, neighborhood senior centers, personal care, prescription discounts, Meals on Wheels, and consulting services...

“It is important for seniors to stay in their homes by keeping taxes low. If reelected, I will build on our successes and maintain high service levels in the face of tight budgets. I will work with State officials to restore funding to human services and senior programs.”
