Volunteers thanked for ‘Night’ work

Kathy Hermany reported to the Northwestern Recreation Commission most of the money from vendors has been received and only a few bills are outstanding.

Vendors earned $50 to $100 less than last year as the fireworks began early due to the strong possibility of rain.

“Thank you, Kathy and all the volunteers,” Rec Commission President Don Link said. “It’s a big job you pulled off.”

When we set Night in the Country up, we planned Kathy would be paid but she has refused to accept pay, Link said.

Member Steve Bachman, representing Heidelberg Township, said Hermany should be given $100.

The 2018 Night will be held Aug. 15.

In other matters, baseball director David Freeman said baseball equipment is being put away because the season is ending.

Jim Hughes, maintenance, said police officers found there were four people in two incidents that did doughnuts on the lower fields.

Justin Smith, of Lynn Township, contacted a trooper at State Police Troop M, Bethlehem.

The rec commission was told to obtain estimates for repairing the damage.

Estimates of $1,500 and $3,500 were received.

“It’s worth pursuing to have someone pay,” Smith said.

Rec commission members approved the bylaws as read at the September meeting and approved a $100 nonrefundable fee when a request for use of the fields is canceled in the final week before the scheduled use

Christie Steigewalt, who works in the Northwestern Lehigh School District business office, is bonded and can be bonded for her work with the commission through the school insurance company for about $100.

A suggestion was made for the recreation commission to have its insurance reviewed by the same broker used by the school.

School district Business Administrator Leslie Frisbee suggested having the recreation commission under the same umbrella policy as the district.

Administrator Brian Carl, of Weisenberg, informed members there needs to be an audit of the recreation commission’s books and they need to reapply for the walking trail grant.
