Grammes, Elbich seek Lehigh County District 1 win

Two candidates are seeking one spot for a four-year term as Lehigh County commissioner in District 1, which includes Coplay and Slatington boroughs and Whitehall, Lynn, Weisenberg, Heidelberg, Washington, North Whitehall and Lowhill townships.

The Press asked the candidates the following question: As a Lehigh County commissioner, how could you help the senior citizens of the Lehigh Valley?

Marc J. Grammes

Republican

While a county commissioner, I had a reputation for working closely with Human Services to address the needs of our citizens, especially our senior citizens. One elderly woman called my home in tears. That was tough. County aging staff visited her home and provided recommendations for assistance. We helped a struggling soul that day. My dedication to service will never waver. A good commissioner is aware of county and state services afforded our seniors. An excellent commissioner actively promotes and advocates for those services. Finally, we should be ever-mindful of the county tax rate and its impact on fixed income.

Robert Elbich

Democrat

I see two areas of positive impact on behalf of seniors. The current board has approved proceeding with a significant Cedarbrook rehabilitation. The new board will have significant impact on the actual construction plan and execution and I plan to play an active part in the project to improve the living conditions for our seniors. Secondly, the County offers a full menu of senior services, but the senior community knowledge of these services can be improved. I would propose an outreach initiative to educate and inform our citizens of the valuable services offered by the County.
