An Upper Milford Township man, who was arrested in 2016 at the Holland Tunnel after law enforcement officials from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey found weapons and other gear during a traffic stop of his vehicle, will serve time.

John F. Cramsey was sentenced Oct. 27 to five years in prison with a minimum of one year behind bars before being eligible for parole, according to a spokesman in the office of the Hudson County Office of the Prosecutor in New Jersey.

According to media reports at the time of the arrest, Cramsey and two passengers were in a sport utility vehicle when police stopped the vehicle for a visibly cracked windshield. A search of the vehicle uncovered rifles and handguns, some reportedly loaded. Several media reports also listed drug paraphernalia and military gear, including night vision goggles, ammunition and tactical vests, among items found in the vehicle.

In an email to The Press at the time of the arrest in June 2016, Joe Pentangelo, a senior police public information officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, listed charges against Cramsey and his passengers as unlawful possession of an assault rifle, unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of a shotgun, possession of high capacity magazines, transportation of an assault rifle and transportation of high capacity magazines.

According to authorities and media reports, Cramsey pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in July.

In a news story published in the June 29, 2016, edition of The East Penn Press, Cramsey was described as owner of Higher Ground Tactical Indoor Range, 5402 Chestnut St., Upper Milford Township. Cramsey also was described as among organizers of an anti-drug group called Enough is Enough.

Media accounts described Cramsey as the father of a 20-year-old woman who died of a heroin overdose in February 2016.
