New supervisor of facilities appointed for school district

A new supervisor of facilities for Northampton Area School District has been appointed.

By a unanimous 9-0 vote, NASD Board of Education appointed Jonathan Jenny as supervisor of facilities, effective Dec. 4, at a salary of $63,000, with benefits.

Robert J. Yanders continues as NASD director of operations, to whom Jenny will report.

In other business at the Oct. 23 board meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve:

Resignation: Jason Winchenbach, assistant boys volleyball coach, effective July 18;

Appointment: Helene Quaintance, assistant boys volleyball coach, at a stipend of $2,249;

An unpaid FMLA leave of absence for Adrea Diehl, Oct. 16-31, with insurance;

A three-year service agreement with Solo Pest Control, Walnutport, at $4,320 annually, with a zero-percent increase, July 1-June 30, 2020;

Administration to prepare and solicit annual bids for 2018-19 school year: maintenance-custodial supplies, instructional-general supplies, gasoline-diesel and fuel oil-natural gas;

Authorize BerkOne Inc., Bethlehem, to prepare and mail homestead applications at a rate of $0.33 each on behalf of NASD;

Anita Mateyak and James Chuss to accompany nine FBLA student members to attend Pennsylvania FBLA Leadership Workshop, Nov. 6-7, Pocono Manor, at a cost to NASD to not exceed $306.67, included in the 2017-18 curriculum budget; and

Donation of children’s fall/winter coats for students in need at George Wolf Elementary School, Borough Elementary Schools, Moore Elementary School and Lehigh Elementary School from St. Nicholas Knights of Columbus, 1152 Oak Road, Berlinsville, with great appreciation for their generosity.

At the Oct. 9 board meeting, school directors voted 8-0, with one director absent, to approve:

Resignations: Nicole Iticovici, short-term substitute science teacher, effective Sept. 28; and Tama Minnich, short-term substitute elementary teacher, effective Sept. 27;

Appointments: Gina VanLuvanee, short-term substitute, grade 3 teacher, George Wolf Elementary School, Oct. 13-Dec. 22, at $125 per day, without benefits; Emily Marley, TPE mathematics teacher, retroactive to Oct. 2, at $50,340, with benefits; and Kimberly Bayer, long-term substitute mathematics teacher, Northampton Area Middle School, through Jan. 18, 2018, or end of first semester of 2017-18 school year, at $263.51 per day, no benefits, retroactive to Aug. 28;

Appointment: Herman Gestl, assistant softball coach, at a stipend of $2,446;

Appointment: Helen Deegan, study hall instructional assistant, Northampton Area High School, effective Nov. 1, at $15.09 per hour, with benefits;

Revised job descriptions for director of technology, secretary-technology office, network and AV supervisor, network specialist and information systems coordinator, effective Oct. 9;

Ryan Mertz, Tanya Hock and 65 students to attend and compete in a performance in Williamsburg, Va., and Washington, D.C., April 11-14, 2018, at a cost to NASD of $1,460, covered in the curriculum budget; and

Appointment: Portnoff Law Associates Ltd., to collect 2017 delinquent real estate taxes.
