William Shakespeare’s classic tale of madness, revenge and murder comes to Emmaus High School when students present “Hamlet” Nov. 2. 3 and 4 in the high school auditorium.

All performances are 7 p.m.

The story is a familiar one for those who completed required reading lists for high school English classes. Prince Hamlet returns to Denmark for his father’s funeral to find his uncle Claudius on his father’s throne and his mother remarried to none other than his uncle. Hamlet’s father, now a ghost, urges his son to avenge his murder by killing Claudius.

The story is based on a Norse legend and features many of the most famous lines in literature including “To be or not to be;” “Alas, poor Yorick;” “There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance” along with equally famous characters such as the depressed Hamlet, the lovesick Ophelia, the noble Horatio, the tedious Polonius and the famous duo Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

The EHS drama department cast features Sebastian Mora as Hamlet; Ryan Peiffer as King Claudius; Julia Norelli as Queen Gertrude; Grace Flood as Ophelia; Jadel Contreras as Laertes; Alena Slak as Horatio; Trevor Warren as Polonius and Stefania Schoen and Gabrielle Mull as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, respectively.

“Hamlet” also features a play within a play, a plot device illuminating events in the primary play and a bench clearing fight finale.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens, and can be reserved online via the EHS website. Tickets will be available in the EHS main office lobby 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. weekdays and will also be available at the door.

Gold card members may present gold cards in the main office or at the door to receive a complimentary ticket to any performance.
