Ambulance 255, a reconstructed 1916 Ford Model TT ambulance used during World War I made a stop at the Allentown Fair to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the opening of Camp Crane.

The fairground fields and facilities were used by the U.S. Army during WWI to train ambulance drivers for duty in France during the war.

The camp derived its name from Brigadier Gen. Charles Henry Crane, surgeon general of the Army from 1882-83.

The trainees used ambulances identical to Ambulance 255 both in training and in the field.

Taking three years of research and two years to construct, George King III was able to reconstruct a complete WWI ambulance using parts of Model TT Fords he keeps as a restorer of Model T’s.

His partner in the project is Jeffrey Klingler, who shares King’s enthusiasm for the antique ambulance.
