The Rev. Dennis W. Moore will be recognized as pastor emeritus of Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, during the 9 a.m. Oct. 29 worship service.

The event will be a celebration of Moore’s 20 years of service to the church, as well as a special occasion commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Interim pastor, the Rev. Mark Swanson, will officiate at the service and Moore will preach the sermon. A huge chocolate party celebration will follow.

Moore, who retired last year, began his ministry at Union Lutheran when the congregation was still sharing the Union Church building with the United Church of Christ congregation in Neffs.

After his arrival at Union Lutheran, Moore starting working with church members to plan for a new place of worship.

The group broke ground in 1999 and conducted the first service in the new sanctuary in March 2001.

When he retired, Moore and his wife, Pat, moved to a new home in Albrightsville.

Throughout the past year, Union Lutheran has been remembering Martin Luther and his actions and writings of 500 years ago, which provided the foundation for the Lutheran church.

Composer of numerous hymns and a staunch advocate of stirring church music, Luther’s most famous work is “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.”

The tune will be heard in several selections played by the Allentown Band at Union Lutheran 3 p.m. Oct. 29.

Director of Music Ministries at Union Lutheran Susan Hartney will play the organ during two selections on the program.
