New Tripoli artist displays work at Blink Optical

Mel Berezny recently displayed some of her art work at Blink Optical, N. 19th St., Allentown.

Berezny was a microbiologist who became an engineer and then evolved into an artist.

“I received my Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Moravian College. I took one painting class with Dr. Teresko,” she said. “I received my Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Lehigh University.”

Later, after many years working in the pharmaceutical field, she took a painting class with Rosemary Geseck at the Baum School of Art, Allentown.

Her grandparents, who were immigrants, her parents and their siblings worked at Bethlehem Steel.

“Eventually, my parents started their own business and we moved to Coopersburg,” she said.

Berezny, who was born in “The Heights,” Bethlehem, lives in New Tripoli, with her dogs Pie and Miss Rose.

“My horse, Sweet Bay, is boarded nearby,” she said.

Her curator is Deb Rabinsky and web designer is Deb Phillips.
