Lower Macungie Fire Department holds community day

Firefighters from the Lower Macungie Fire Department’s Wescosville and Brandywine fire stations hosted an open house Oct. 14 at the department’s Brandywine Station, 6229 Sauerkraut Lane, next to the Willow Lane Elementary School.

Firefighter open house organizer Andrew Miller said the turnout was the “best ever” for the department’s annual open house held in conjunction with national Fire Prevention week.

The open house featured displays of fire equipment, demonstrations, games and face painting for youngsters, demonstrations of rescue equipment, food and souvenirs.

A visit by the Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac helicopter was a big draw for young and old. Fire and rescue units from around the region added to the equipment youngsters could climb into and pretend to be firemen or EMS emergency workers.
