LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q: In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A: I am currently a senior at Emmaus High School.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject would have to be computer science, because I enjoy working with computers and there’s a definite appeal to that feeling of satisfaction that you get when you solve a problem or complete a tough program.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I’ve been the regional winner for newswriting at the Pennsylvania School Press Association’s student journalism competition in my sophomore and junior years. I’m also a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I play soccer for the Lower Macungie Youth Association, I’m an assistant opinion editor for The Stinger, our school newspaper, I’m the treasurer of our chapter of National Honor Society and I volunteer to feed animals at the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: I’m not sure where yet, but I’m hoping to study computer science at college, while at the same time possibly continuing to write opinion pieces. I also intend to become proficient in backgammon.

Q: What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A: To date, my biggest challenge is probably dealing with my procrastination. I’ve had many nights of staying up until around 3 a.m. trying to finish papers and projects and I’m usually waiting until the last minute to do things.

Q: For what would you like to be remembered?

A: I’d like to be remembered as a nice person with a modest attitude - I don’t, for example, go around bragging about my unfairly massive upper body strength.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: I’m living with my mom, Barbara, my dad, Guy and my brother Connor. I have a sister, Tara, who is studying art in college down in Georgia and another brother, Ryan, who lives in Harrisburg. We also have a dog named Casey, a cat named Gypsy, various unnamed fish and a rabbit named Cooper.

Q: Whom do you admire? Why?

A: I admire Buddy Valastro, the star of the popular television show “Cake Boss,” because it takes a lot of gumption to run a bakery.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: My advice would be to shoot for the thermosphere - that way, even if you miss, you’ll still land among the mesosphere.
