Coming after arguably its best performance of the season, Salisbury head coach Andy Cerco and his coaching staff will likely address the possibility of an upset when the Falcons host Northern Lehigh on Friday night.
Northern Lehigh (0-7) is the only remaining winless team in the Colonial League through seven weeks. Pen Argyl defeated the Bulldogs two weeks ago in a battle of winless teams, and last week’s 54-6 romp against Saucon Valley has Northern Lehigh in the cellar of the league standings.
But when Salisbury (3-4) and Northern Lehigh kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday night on the Falcons’ home turf, the Falcons won’t be taking the Bulldogs lightly. And with district playoff implications on the line, looking past this winless opponent could have dire consequences.
Northern Lehigh’s offense is centered around its ground game behind a number of different running backs. Mason Seiler, who leads the team with 260 yards on the ground, scored twice against Pen Argyl in Week 5. His counterpart, Justin Paul, is right behind with 259 yards through seven games and also reached the end zone twice in that Pen Argyl game.
The Bulldogs are certainly capable of running the ball, even if the win column still has yet to produce a victory. Northern Lehigh ran for 364 yards against the Green Knights on 54 carries.
When called upon to throw the ball, quarterback Zach Long lines up under center and handles that duty. Three of his four completions against Pen Argyl went to Seiler, who finished with 73 receiving yards in that game alone. Long also has the ability to make plays in the running game, totaling 145 yards thus far for the Bulldogs.
