HORNET HAPPENINGS

PSAT/NMSQT testing will be administered at Emmaus High School 8 a.m. Oct. 14. It is recommended all college bound 11th grade students take this test.

The homecoming football game will be held Oct. 13 along with the homecoming tailgate 4 to 6 p.m. at EHS. The homecoming dance will be held the following day, Oct. 14, in EHS Cafe 1 and 2.

Anyone interested in trying out for the girls basketball team is encouraged to attend open gyms 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the main gym.

If any seniors are applying to Kutztown University, the EHS counseling department and Kutztown University are holding an instant decision day at EHS Nov. 2. Interested students can apply to Kutztown University for free using the fee waiver code: AFBE and then sign up for instant decision day in the counseling office before Oct. 25. Students must provide proof of a completed application (i.e., the email confirmation received or screenshot of the submitted page) in order to sign up for the instant decision day. See Mrs. Tisi in the counseling office to register.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery will be given 7:30 a.m. Oct. 26 in the multi-media room at EHS. Students interested in attending must register in the counseling office. This battery is required for anyone interested in being a part of the armed services; however, it is also a great resource for nonmilitary students in grades 10 through 12 seeking more information regarding careers. For information, contact counselors or Mr. McInerney in the counseling office.

The EHS Dance Team is holding a Designer Handbag Bingo fundraiser featuring bags by Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Coach and Vera Bradley Nov. 5 at the Alburtis Area Community Center. There is a cost for tickets. Doors will open 11:30 a.m. and games start 1 p.m. There will also be bingo specials, raffle baskets, and food available for purchase. Rifle team signups and a pre-season meeting with the students and parents will be held 6 p.m. Oct. 17 in Room 353. Students that were on the rifle team last year can sign up this year by sending Coach Chromiak an email with both the student’s and at least one parent’s contact information to ppchrom@ptd.net.

Boys and girls swimming signups will be held Oct. 11, 12 and 13 in Room 581.

The student group Students Against Destructive Decisions and Kid to Kid meets Oct. 16 after school in Room 227. Members will discuss the scheduled training day and agenda. Please see Miss Martini for a training day permission slip if unable to attend the meeting. Students can follow SADD on Twitter with the username @emmauskid2kid.

The Red Cross Blood Drive will take place Oct. 17. Student donors are needed. Students who are16 years old or older and want to donate blood may register in the café during lunches or in Room 335 after school. The Lehigh Valley is experiencing a blood shortage and blood is needed.

Varsity, junior varsity and JH boys basketball signups will be held Oct 18 after school in the gym lobby.

The Hornet’s Nest is now open during all lunches Wednesday through Friday for all EHS spirit wear.

Students who arrive late to school should enter through the main office entrance to sign in at the late desk.

Mud Club meets 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday in Room 520. Stop by for snacks and conversation and have fun with clay. All are welcome.
