Becahi tournament: Let’s Par-Tee!
Bethlehem Catholic HS held its annual Golf Outing Sept. 15 at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Club. The weather was beautiful, the greens were fast and the golf pants were crazy.
A total of 144 golfers, including 36 alumni, came out to support Bethlehem Catholic’s sports teams. The proceeds of this year’s event will be used to buy new uniforms for the girls and boys soccer teams, the girls basketball team, and new banners for the gymnasium.
The winning quad of the four-golfer scramble, determined by a tie-breaker, was made up of Ernie Stiegler Sr., Ernie Stiegler Jr., Scott Allinson and Zach Allinson with a final score of 59, 12 under par.
The second place team consisted of Tony Iannetta, Mike Gregorek, Mario D’Ángelo and Matt Erney. Longest drive for the men was by Ernie Stiegler Sr., and longest drive for the women was achieved by Becahi physical education teacher Karen Redding.
Becahi students helped out at the event, greeting golfers, checking players in and selling raffle tickets. Some participated in the tournament. Becahi senior and golf team captain Kyle Smedley has played in the tournament for the past two years, and says of this year’s event: “As a student and golfer for Bethlehem Catholic, I felt truly blessed to see all the people who came out to support our school.”
The tournament could not have taken place without the generous support of the sponsors and leadership of Kristine Evina, director of advancement; Lori Mergel, director of events; Tina Giordano, advancement assistant; Hank Baumann, head of the tournament; the entire golf committee, and the dedicated volunteers who came out to help.
Overall, the event was a huge success, and golfers are looking forward to next year’s outing Sept. 14, 2018. For information about next year’s outing, contact Lori Mergel in the Advancement Office at lmergel@becahi.org.
