Central Catholic has begun its Vikings on the Road program, in which select students travel to Central’s feeder schools throughout the Lehigh Valley. During the events, the students share their experiences at Allentown Central Catholic High School and any high school tips they have for eighth graders. So far, the program has visited St. Thomas More School in Allentown and St. Ann School in Emmaus with many more schools still to come.

Students at Central Catholic are continuing to make an impact on the playing fields. Matt Kalamar, a member of the golf team, recently shot a 4-over-76 and won the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference individual boys gold championship at Woodstone Country Club. Senior Maddie Faust was named lehighvalleylive’s Girls Soccer Player of the Week for her eight goals and four assists during recent games. Vikette Volleyball is having a great season with an overall record of 11-0 after impressive victories over Emmaus, Parkland and Nazareth. As of Sept. 28, the Vikettes are the only unbeaten girls volleyball team in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and are looking to defend their Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Assocation Class 3A Championship.

Central Catholic students are also making an impact off the field. ACCHS junior Alex Strohl received the rank of Eagle Scout Sept. 24. His Eagle Scout project was a buddy bench for the playground at St. Joesph the Worker. In a video he produced, Strohl shares the bench is “a place for children to alleviate loneliness, foster friendships, promote inclusionand spread kindness.”

ACCHS junior Dorah Ganchoso was selected to join the American Public Transportation Association Youth Summit to Advance Public Transportation in Washington, D.C.

ACCHS Wall of Fame Inductions will be held Oct. 7 during halftime of the football game against Pocono Mountain East, which begins 7 p.m. The inductees include Mike Kopp, Shavaun (Fisher) Mull (’07), Matt Baker (’06) and Kevin McFadden (’05). This game will also be the school’s annual “Pink Out” to help raise awareness of breast cancer.

Central Catholic will be closed Oct. 6 and 9 for fall break and for a teacher in-service. Later that week, on Oct. 11, the PSATs will be held for freshmen, sophomores and juniors. The test will be taken in the morning, and school pictures and information sessions will be held in the afternoon. Seniors have the day off but are encouraged to go on a college visit.

A meeting was held in late September to discuss the 2018 school pilgrimage to Italy. From June 13 to 22, 2018, participants will tour Florence, Assisi, Rome and Sorrento with Italian tour guides. Mrs. Mary Ellen Strohl and Father Mark Searles, the school chaplain, will chaperone the trip, which is open to Central Catholic students and families. Four Central Catholic students are competing in The Morning Call Amateur Scholastic Digital Photography Contest during the InVision Photo Festival Nov. 3 to 5 at ArtsQuest in Bethlehem.
