Lauretta Ruch becomes a centenarian

Lauretta Ruch, who was raised on a farm in Seipstown, turned 100 years old on Sept. 30.

One of six children of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Fiste, she married Edgar Ruch in 1939, and moved to their home in Fogelsville.

The couple had three children Betty, David and Peggy.

Edgar, a veteran of World War II, died at the young age of 57 leaving Lauretta a widow for many years.

Lauretta lived in the home she made with Edgar until she moved to Cedarbrook Nursing Home at the end of this summer.

A waitress for 40 years at Shankweiler’s Restaurant, Fogelsville, she began working in the kitchen at Ambassador Restaurant, Allentown, when Shankweiler’s closed.

She remained a loyal employee there until she retired at age 85.

A lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fogelsville. Lauretta was an avid reader who enjoyed working in her yard.

In addition to her three children, Lauretta has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
