The Sept. 27 meeting of the Alburtis Borough Council began with a discussion of implementing caller ID in the borough hall.

Council officials received a quote from Diefenderfer Electrical Contractors in Allentown. The price to implement caller ID would be $1,244 plus the hourly rate of $121.65 per hour. There was discussion about the option of replacing the phones instead.

There was also a discussion about life insurance from New York Life during the borough council meeting. Council debated whether borough employees should be permitted to get a life insurance policy if they are interested, which was approved unanimously.

In other meeting news, the Macungie Fire Department made a request for the Macungie Halloween Parade scheduled 6 p.m. Oct. 28. The fire department asked for assistance from the Alburtis Fire Department Special Fire Police for traffic control during the event. Council agreed to lend the fire police services for the event.

J.P. Mascaro & Sons made a $250 donation to Alburtis. The donation will be used for trick-or-treat night.

In other business, council members talked about recycling bins. There were residents of the borough who were still looking to acquire the new larger recycling bins. Lower Macungie Township was willing to sell its excess bins to Alburtis residents at the price of $46. Lower Macungie Township has a total of 85 recycling bins available.

The basement of the Shell station in the borough sustained damage when the borough suffered sewer issues discussed at the Sept. 13 meeting. The Shell station did not have insurance and asked the borough to help pay for the damage. Council decided not to help pay for the damage as council members did not want to set a precedent.

Alburtis Borough Council will hold its next meeting Oct. 11. Meetings typically take place on the second and last Wednesday of the month. Meetings are held 7 p.m. in Alburtis Borough Hall.
