UPPER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP: ‘Get Prepared Parkland’ on Sept. 30
North Whitehall, South Whitehall and Upper Macungie townships will host “Get Prepared Parkland,” an emergency preparedness educational event 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30 at Lone Lane Park, 30 Lone Lane, Upper Macungie Township.
There will be demonstrations, presentations and training sessions to mark September as National Emergency Preparedness Month.
Participation events include hands-only CPR, junior firefighter obstacle course, live and simulated fire extinguisher training, first aid and stop the bleed.
Participants may earn some giveaways to help them be prepared.
Planned events include gun, generator and bike safety, fingerprinting, school bus demo and fire prevention trailer.
Learn emergency bag preparation, vehicle preparedness, burglar prevention and car seat safety.
Learn how to prepare for a disaster and keep family members safe.

Upper Macungie Township is hosting its fifth annual Barktoberfest 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at Upper Macungie Park, 1625 N. Route 100, Fogelsville.
There will be a pet parade, DJ, shows, demonstrations, costume contests, food and lots of vendors. Cash prizes will be awarded to participants in the pet costume contest.

Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall Township, is hosting a “This is Us Drop In” event from noon to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9.
Drop into the library to create a ‘This is Us’ themed project and vote for your favorite show character.
Snacks, games and prizes will be available.
The library is offering a special needs financial seminar 2:30-4 p.m. Oct. 12.
This seminar will provide participants with an overview of financial and estate planning for families who have dependents with special needs.
Baby story time for kids birth to age 2 will be 10:30-11 a.m. Mondays until Nov. 13. Older siblings are welcome to attend.
Toddler story time for kids 18 months to age 3 will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:30-11 a.m. until Nov. 15.
There will be stories, songs and rhymes.
Preschool story time for kids 3-5 is scheduled 1-1:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays until Nov. 16. A caregiver must remain in the library.
Sensory story time for kids ages 10 and under will be offered 6 p.m. Oct. 11.
Youngsters are invited to play with scarves, sing songs, hear stories and make new friends.
This event is geared toward children who have a hard time in large groups, are on the autism spectrum, or are subject to sensory overload.
Parents, caregivers, siblings and therapists are welcome to attend.

Zion’s Union Church Maxatawny, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, is collecting new socks for men, women, children and infants Oct. 1 to Nov. 12 to be distributed to local organizations and shelters to help homeless people.

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran, Fogelsville, is having a basket raffle 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7.
Basket preview night will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 6. Food will not be sold on Oct. 6, only raffle tickets.
Winners do not need to be present for the drawing of the 75-plus different themed baskets and gift cards.
Various consultants with their products will also attend.
There will be lunch items and baked goods available for purchase as well as jars of homemade chowchow. All are welcome to attend.
