Get ready, get set and pick out the best spot for viewing Emmaus’ annual Halloween parade and BB&T Halloween in Emmaus 5K race Oct. 21. The start time for the race is 7 p.m. Prizes are awarded to top runners and costume contest winners. The parade steps off 7:30 p.m. This popular event attracts hundreds of spectators along the parade route. Rain date for both events is Oct 22. Proceeds from the race benefit the Halloween parade and Emmaus’ parks system.

Volunteers are needed to help with the parade organization. A parade committee has been meeting 7 p.m. every Thursday at borough hall in the community room where it will meet until Oct. 12. The committee will meet Oct. 19 in council chambers. For information, email EmmausParade@aol.com.

Emmaus’ Trick or Treat night will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27. Be on the lookout for little ghosts and goblins.

The Emmaus Garden Club meets Oct. 3 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3001 N. Second St. Programs start 12:30 p.m. The public is welcome. During the program, Leona Swiacki, a freelance designer and an instructor at Delaware County Community College, Tyler Arboretum and Longwood Gardens, will complete eight unique seasonal designs in water, sand and floral foam. The kick-off for the popular Emmaus Arts Commission’s 2017 Student Film Festival will be held 6 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Emmaus High School cafeteria, 800 Pine St. The kickoff meeting includes film tips and tricks and contest rules. The genre is scary/suspenseful/funny/documentary/drama. The theme is open to interpretation. Each team then has 120 hours to create, shoot and edit a final film. Final films are due 6 p.m. Oct. 16. The Friends of the 1803 House will host its seventh annual “A Very Merrie Halloween” festival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 on the grounds of the historic 1803 House, 55 S. Keystone Ave. The event features crafters and demonstrations. There will be refreshments available for sale. Activities for children include a Halloween costume parade, pumpkin decorating and a demonstration from the Wildlands Conservancy of “not so scary” wild creatures. The Knauss Homestead Preservation Society is holding a Boozy Bingo fundraiser at Fire Co. #1, 50 S. Sixth St., Oct. 8. The Emmaus Historical Society will hold an eat-in or take-out fried chicken dinner fundraiser 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church parish hall. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Deadline to order is Oct. 4. Attendees are welcome to stay for the society’s monthly 7 p.m. program immediately following the dinner.

The historical society museum, 218 Main St., is open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays, or by appointment by calling 610-966-6591. The museum has many new exhibits including exhibits on Emmaus Lions/Lioness Club, Emaus/Emmaus businesses’, vintage Halloween, Emmaus High School class rings and graduation classes ending in 7 from 1907 to 1917. The society is sponsoring a bus trip to the American Music Theater Christmas 3 p.m. matinee show, “Home for the Holidays,” Nov. 9. All proceeds benefit the museum’s capital campaign. Attendees will meet 10 a.m. at the Weis Market parking lot and arrive at Shady Maples for lunch and then depart for the show. The Woman’s Club of Emmaus will hold its annual fall luncheon and card party 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 510 Chestnut St. The funds raised during the event are used to support the club’s graduation and scholarship awards for EHS seniors. The Emmaus Public Library is offering several new programs in October. For the children: Mark McGuire, the library’s JPL NASA solar system ambassador, will discuss 20 years of Mars exploration and the future during the NASA Mars Science Lab: Curiosity Rover program 2 p.m. Oct. 14. Another program on science will be held 4:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and will include experiments on a variety of subjects.

Charles Adams III will present a program on Ghost Stories of the Lehigh Valley 7:13 p.m. Oct. 25. Adams will sign his book after the program. Bill and Louise Cosgrove will present a program on the Art of Winslow Homer during the Meet the Artist program 7 p.m. Oct. 30.
