Installation of new water meters at some residences in Salisbury Township was to have begun Sept. 18.

Salisbury Township Director of Public Works John Andreas said about 1,200 letters of meter installation notification have been sent to residents.

InLine Services, inc., Flemington, N.J., is handling appointments and doing the work for the estimated three-month project.

Andreas also reported the water main replacement project in the Meadowbrook section of the township is continuing.

Salisbury Township Chief of Police Allen W. Stiles said the Sept. 10 Lehigh Valley Health Network VIA Marathon went well. “It was another success for us, working with our partners at Lehigh Valley Health Network and other partners,” Stiles said.

Approximately 4,000 runners participated. “We had them out of the township by 7:25 a.m.,” Stiles said.

Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said the draft of the 2018 budget is expected to be available to commissioners for review at the Oct. 26 meeting.

Salisbury Townhip Director of Finance Paul Ziegenfus said he will be working on and getting ready to publish a request for proposals for township auditing. “The same auditor’s been doing our auditing for 10-plus years. I would like to get a new set of eyes and some cost-savings,” Ziegenfus said.

Salisbury Township Assistant Zoning Officer, Code Enforcement Officer and MS4 Coordinator Sandy Nicolo said heating, ventilation and air conditioning repairs to the township municipal building have netted savings. “So far, we’ve saved $2,300 on electricity, compared to the same time last year. It [the repairs] will pay for itself in a few years,” Nicolo said.

Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company President Adam G. Al-Khal said delivery of Engine 31-122, the station’s new pumper, is expected Sept. 20 at the fire company. Western’s ninth annual community day is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Green Acres Park.

Salisbury Township Commissioners voted 5-0 at the Sept. 14 meeting to approve:

•The township Industrial Waste Disposal and Discharge Ordinance. “It is simply being amended more for housekeeping purposes since the Lehigh County Authority has taken over the Allentown [Wastewater Treatment] Plant,” Bonaskiewich explained.

•Appointees to the township police pension committee: Bonaskiewich, Ziegenfus, Salisbury Township Police Sgt. Ronald Patten, Police Sgt. Donald Sabo and township Commissioner Debra Brinton.

•Delegates to the township tax collection committee: Bonaskiewich, primary voting delegate and Ziegenfus, first alternate voting delegate.

At the Aug. 24 township meeting, commissioners voted 4-0, with one commissioner absent, to approve Payment No. 7 of $3,558.60 to Charlie Nansteel Tree & Excavation, LCC, for Lindberg Park Phase 2 work.

It was announced the third annual community breakfast for Salisbury Township residents, employees and Salisbury School District alumni will be held 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St. The breakfast is free, but reservations are required by Nov. 6 at salisburysd.org/breakfast or by calling 610-797-2062, ext. 1000.
