EMMAUS BOROUGH COUNCIL

Emmaus Borough Council held a brief meeting Sept. 5, with Brent Labenberg opening the meeting providing information about the borough’s ambulance subscription plan.

There are two new categories of membership for the coming year: single senior and senior couple. The single senior is $40 annually and the senior couple is $50.

Other categories of membership include single for $45, family for $60 and businesses, covering any employee, for $200.

Charges for ambulances, without the subscription plan insurance, are $900 for advanced life support, $450 to $650 for basic life support and $75 for a round trip wheelchair transport.

Fees also include mileage, which stands at $10 per mile for advanced life support, $6 per mile for ambulette transport and $4 per mile for wheelchair transport.

Borough Manager Shane Pepe said most insurance companies don’t pay the entire amount for ambulance service and the subscription plan picks up the balance due, often hundreds of dollars.

This year there are 556 single members and 1,077 family memberships. Information about next years’ service will be sent to borough residents later in September.

The plan was unanimously approved by council members. Councilman Nathan Brown was absent.

In other business, council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to prohibit parking on the south side of East Minor Street from Kline’s Lane in the area of the Seventh Generation Charter School.

Both the Emmaus Police Department and Public Works committee recommended parking be prohibited at all times.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. and was followed by an executive session for personnel matters.
