Letter to the Editor: Coplay councilman reflects on McNeill

To the Editor:

State Rep. Mike Schlossberg called Danny McNeill larger than life, when we all heard that Danny was called back home Friday, Sept. 8. In so many ways, this is a true statement when describing Danny.

I would just like to share a few thoughts about Danny McNeill, my friend and state rep.

Danny was the perfect example of what being elected as a public official is all about. He served the people in the 133rd District. If anyone would ask Danny for help, he never asked what district you were from or whether you were a Democrat or Republican.

Danny was very instrumental in the progress of Coplay council, providing a better lifestyle and enhancing the image for everyone who calls Coplay home.

There was no sugar coating with Danny McNeill. He did not string you along and tell you what you wanted to hear. Danny was a straight shooter. He knew better than anyone how to separate the difference in being a politician and a public servant.

As an elected public servant for the Coplay community, because of Danny McNeill, I met so many good union officials, county officials and so many great people who loved Danny and his wife, Jeanne.

I remember Danny telling me, as a friend and elected official, “One day, you will become just a memory to some people. Make it a good one.”

Danny and Jeanne gave so much back to communities and people needing help, even if just a hug.

For all of us lucky enough to know Danny, we have become better people and live in a better world because of him.

Yes, he was larger than life.
