LCCC:

Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) is offering a two-credit course in small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), commonly referred to as drones. With the commercial applications of drones increasingly expanding into businesses such as construction, law enforcement, agriculture, photography and videography, and engineering, drone flying skills can be of value to many employers.

The class will be offered at the college’s Lehigh Valley International Airport site, Hanger 7, 600 Hayden Circle, Allentown, and is 10 weeks of classroom instruction, offered Thursdays, 6 - 7:30 p.m., Sept. 7 - Nov. 9. In addition, the class includes five Saturday mornings flying on the college campus in Schnecksville.

The class is be taught by John Fries, pilot, commercial drone operator and co-founder of Lehigh Valley Drone.

Commercial applications of drones require the pilot to have the Federal Aviation Administration Remote Pilot Certification, which requires pilots to pass a test on the rules of flying, safety procedures and aeronautical knowledge. The LCCC course, ASA 297 - Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems, will cover the knowledge required to successfully complete the test.
