SALISBURY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

Salisbury Township School District Superintendent Dr. Randy Ziegenfuss and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Lynn Fuini-Hetton planned an opening convocation Aug. 23 for every employee of the school district.

Following a breakfast, break-out sessions were given for employees to learn a new skill and interact with other employees they may not work with on a regular basis. Break-out sessions included Intro to Guitar, Archery in the Classroom, Zen Coloring for the Soul, Basic Cake Decorating, Intro to Basic Hand Lettering and Creative Journals, Summer Reading Book Circle, Better Stories, Coding, Challenged Based Learning and More ... What’s New from Apple Education, “ROCK” Craze, Sharpen the Saw While Escaping the Room, Healthy Meal Prep., Restore & Rebalance Through Yoga, Healthy Eating: Gluten Free, Low Fat, Vegetarian Dishes from Indian Cuisine, Salisbury Family Game Day, What’s YOUR Passion? The Story of a Local Winemaker, Fruit and Vegetable Carvings and The Fun Facts of Child Nutrition, How’s Your Driving? and Digital Information Literacy: Teaching/Learning Digital Resources, Licensing Your Work and Your Students’ Work; How to Evaluate News and “Fake News.”

Following the sessions, the employees gathered in the auditorium for an encore music performance from the staff band “Period Five.”

Everyone was welcomed by Ziegenfuss and Fuini-Hetton and Board President Frank Frankenfield also welcomed the staff, thanked the summer staff for their work in preparing the schools and made note of the changes for this school year including a new food service provider and changes to the buildings and property.

Ziegenfuss provided a presentation on what the student will look like in the year 2030 as that is the year the current kindergarten students will graduate.

Building principals introduced the new staff to their buildings and Salisbury Education Association Vice President Matt Tobias and Salisbury Educational Support Personnel Association President Scott Marshall welcomed everyone back with an inspiring and uplifting song which encouraged staff to show their “pride and joy.”

Employees with 20 years of service were recognized, including Michael Barna, Lori McGinley, Julie Mokris, Jackie Peifer, Michael Posch, Beth Prokesch, Patricia Veszpremi and Catherine Yurconic.

Employees with 30 years of service were also recognized, including Tammy Cihylik, Gloria Hinkle, Gary Schweyer and John Wagner.
