Northampton Community College

People’s Law School begins Sept. 14

The Northampton County Bar Association to the Public committee, in conjunction with Northampton Community College, will hold a People’s Law School from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 14 to Nov. 2 in Room 101, Kopecek Hall, Bethlehem Campus. All classes are taught by attorneys and professionals in law-related fields.

Topics include Introduction to the Court System, Family Law, Wills & Estates, Intro to Federal Law and Military Law, Real Estate, Criminal Law, First Amendment and Civil Law.

Google suite intro class

George Wacker, adjunct computer professor at Northampton Community College and president of Lehigh Valley with Love Media, LLC, will host an Introduction to Google Suite class at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at the Fowler Family Southside Center.

This course teaches practical uses for Google applications such as Drive, Docs, Calendar and Gmail. Basic computer and internet knowledge is required.

Named to best college for adult learnbers list

Northampton Community College has received national recognition as one of the 100 best community colleges for adult learners nationwide by Washington Monthly’s annual college guide. This is the college’s second year in a row as one of the best colleges for adult learners.

Rankings are based on data from two federal government sources as well as the College Board’s Annual Survey of Colleges and combined into seven general measures of colleges’ openness and responsiveness to adult students and to how well those students fared once they left.

NCC ranked 60th on the nationwide list and scored high marks in ease of transfer, flexibility of programs, services for adult students, and tuition and fees.

Penn State Lehigh Valley

Lecture series opens Sept. 8

Penn State Lehigh Valley’s Faculty Invitational Lecture Series opens with “A Return to the Madhouse: Climate Change Denial in the Age of Trump” on Sept. 8 in in room 135, PSU

Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State, Michael E. Mann, Ph.D., will explore how denialism over climate change has infected the highest level of U.S. government with the election of President Donald J. Trump, after it being previously rendered irrelevant.

Future programs include “The history of C.F. Martin of Martin Guitar” by Dick Boak, the company’s historian, on Oct. 10 in room 302. All of the free, open to the public talks are from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the local PSU campus.

Arts workshops begin Sept. 19

The Arts Project session options will be held from Sept. 19 to Dec. 12 at the PSU Lehigh Valley campus.

The 12-week workshops include Ceramics for Beginners with Corianne Thompson; Drawing and Painting Design Fundamentals with Ron De Long; Beginning Jewelry and Metalwork, and Advanced Jewelry and Metalwork, both with Ann Lalik.
