Artifacts from World War I are being sought to enhance a commemorative exhibit about the Camp Crane ambulance training facility at the Allentown Fairgrounds from 1917-1919.
The Great Allentown Fair is hoping community members’ attics, basements or even home display units may have some relics of World War I that could add to its exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of when the Fairgrounds in the west end of the city was converted into a World War I ambulance training and mobilization facility.
Allentown Fair President Beverly Gruber is putting out the call for anything that might be relevant to the “Great War” or Camp Crane, as the Fairgrounds encampment was called, that has been handed down through the generations and could be loaned for showcasing in the Agri-Plex during Fair week, Aug. 29 through Sept. 4.
Uniforms, medals, armaments, postcards, and any items that could add to the display, will be considered.
Gruber said the artifacts will be carefully handled and displayed. She will discuss arrangements for submission and return of all items with those willing to participate.
