High School football got under way Friday night across the state. Several teams from the Lehigh Valley Press coverage area posted big wins to open the season.

Dieruff-Emmaus

Defending Eastern Pennsylvania Conference champion Emmaus opened its season with a 62-19 win over Dieruff to open the 2017 season.

Running backs Lubens Myers (6 carries, 131 yards, 2 TD) and Sone Ntoh (12 carries, 73 yards, 2 TD) combined for 2204 yards, while first-year starting quarterback Blake Reed went 10-for-12 with 166 yards and three touchdown passes. He also ran for 31 yards and a TD. Josh Artis caught three passes for 66 yards and a score.

Emmaus had six different players hit pay dirt in the game as Izaiah McPherson and Noah Breidinger caught touchdown passes and Cody Gross ran for a late touchdown.

The Hornets travel to Whitehall next Friday night.

Parkland-Allen

The Trojans beat the Canaries 49-0.

Jahan Worth had 30 rushing yards and three touchdowns for Parkland. Tyler Hays had 85 yards receving in the win. Mason Malozzi scored for the Trojans on an interception return.

Palmerton-Northwestern

The Blue Bombers beat the Tigers 42-14.

Palmerton’s Tekoah Guedes fan threw for three touchdowns and threw for another. The transfer from Northern Lehigh ran for 136 yards on 18 carries while competing 20 of 39 passes with one TD.

Northwestern’s Caleb Clymer caught six passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

Pocono Mountain West-Bethlehem Catholic

The Golden Hawks beat the Panthers 58-14.

Tavion Banks ran for 148 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown. Matt Bisko carried five times for 64 yards and a pair of scores.

Quarterback Javon Clements went 7-fo-r11 with one touchdown pass, a 37-yard strike to Daizhan Rhodes (6 catches, 62 yards).

Whitehall-Pocono Mountain East

The Zephyrs beat the Cardinals 55-12.

Liberty-East Stroudsburg South

The Hurricanes topped the Cavaliers 39-6.

Salisbury-Catasauqua

The Falcons beat the Rough Riders 47-29.
