SALISbURY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

Members of the Salisbury Township School District board met Aug. 16 to approve a number of personnel items and conduct other business.

The board accepted the following resignations at the meeting: Nancy Holler, due to retirement, as a part-time instructional assistant at the Salisbury Middle School library effective Aug. 4; Heidi Hochstetler as a part-time intervention/learning support instructional assistant at Harry S Truman Elementary School effective July 18; Lori Klein as a part-time one-to-one instructional assistant at Salisbury Middle School effective July 23; Brenda Kahn as a part-time one-to-one instructional assistant at HST effective July 26; Terri-Jean Walck as a part-time one-to-one instructional assistant at Salisbury High School effective Aug. 1; Kelly Powers as a part-time instructional assistant at Western Salisbury Elementary School effective Aug. 4 and Alyssa Trunk as a part-time one-to-one instructional assistant at HST effective Aug. 9.

New hires include Carolyn Lucas as a part-time English teacher at SHS effective Aug. 16; Katie Miller as a full-time social studies/gifted teacher at SHS effective Aug. 16; Corinne Ramunni as a full-time special education learning support teacher at WSE effective Aug. 16; Elizabeth Kantzaridis as a full-time special education learning support teacher at WSE effective Aug. 16; Jennifer Roth as a part-time ESL teacher at WSE effective Aug. 16; Christine Quier, as a part-time, one-to-one instructional assistant at WSE effective Aug. 23; Rosemarie Ambriano-Yob as a part-time, one-to-one instructional assistant at SMS effective Aug. 23; Jenny Kaough as a part-time one-to-one instructional assistant at SHS effective Aug. 23; Allison Moyer, as a full-time long-term substitute guidance counselor at SHS effective Aug. 22 and Alyson Saxman, as a full-time long-term third grade teacher at WSE effective Aug. 22.

Kristy Wied was approved as a full-time fourth grade teacher at WSE effective Aug. 22 and Patricia Anderson was approved as a full-time gifted teacher at HST, WSE and SHS effective Aug. 22.

Melissa Cerco, Laura Nogueira and Joseph Pacitti reached tenure status after three years of satisfactory service in the district effective Aug. 21.

Michael Barna was approved as the social studies department chairperson for the 2017-2018 school year.

Coaching appointments include Barry Frick as the assistant boys soccer coach, Margaret McGinty as the assistant cross country coach, Joshua Lake as the assistant varsity football coach, Steven Linn as the middle school football coach, Alexander Hammel as the junior varsity boys soccer coach, Sean Roth as the junior varsity football coach, Richard Simononis as the assistant varsity football coach, Susan Sentz as a volunteer assistant twirling coach, Robert Dragotta as a volunteer assistant girls tennis coach, James Silberman as a volunteer assistant middle school field hockey coach, Mackenzie Sikora as a volunteer assistant varsity fall cheerleading coach, James Moore as a volunteer middle school football coach and Michael Pennella as a volunteer assistant golf coach.

Additional approved volunteer twirling coaches are Christina Young, Christine Tocci, Rob Tocci, Julie Sentz, Nanette DeReemer and Carly Brown.

Board President Frank Frankenfield congratulated the retirees, thanked them for their service to the district and welcomed the new staff members.

Director Audrey Frick presented the following policies to the board for final reading and adoption: finance management, tax collection/local taxpayer bill of rights, purchasing, petty cash, district credit cards, bank accounts, capitalization, budget, audit, payment claims and athletic and student activity funds.

In other business, Business Administrator Robert Bruchak reported Pennsylvania still does not have an approved state budget. The expenditures were approved but the revenue was not.

An extracurricular trip for Model United Nations to Baltimore, Md. to participate in the John Hopkins Model U.N. conference Feb. 8 to 11, 2018 was approved.

The agreement between the district and Community Services for Children, Inc./Head Start of the Lehigh Valley beginning Aug. 1 through July 31, 2018 was approved.

An agreement between the district and the Center for Humanistic Change, Inc. to provide liaison services to support the student assistance program was approved.

An agreement between the district and Whitehall-Coplay School District regarding enrollment in the Life Skills Support Program and Services for a student was approved.

The district also approved an agreement with Discovery Education to purchase science and social studies techbooks licenses effective Aug. 15 through Aug. 14, 2018.

In the superintendent’s report, Superintendent Dr. Randy Ziegenfuss thanked everyone involved in preparing the schools for the new school year.

Ziegenfuss said the teachers will start Aug. 22, students in kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades will start Aug. 28 and all students will start Aug. 29.

In new business from the board, Director George Gatanis and the board congratulated WSE Principal Grace Hartman for earning her doctorate degree from Gwynedd Mercy University. She said it took her three years to complete her degree program.

The Aug. 28 curriculum and technology meeting has been canceled.

The operations committee will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the administration building and the next regular board meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the administration building.

Frankenfield announced the board met prior to the board meeting in executive session to discuss personnel matters.
