Weisenberg offering electronics recycling

Weisenberg Township has set Sept. 30 as its free electronics recycling day for township residents.

Items will be collected 9 a.m. until noon or until trucks are full at the Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Company.

Many items can be recycled for free and electronics are not the only items that will be accepted.

Car batteries, bed frames, filing cabinets and toner and ink cartridges are among the many items allowed.

Items that would require a fee are monitors, televisions and air conditioners.

A complete listing is available at the township building.

In other matters at the supervisors’ meeting, the Golden Key Travel Center plan, 2298 Golden Key Road, was approved. A $2,500 recreation fee was required.

After inspection, the board accepted the improvements in West Hills, Phase 1.

Roadway length is approximately 3,000 feet.

An ordinance allowing a reduction in taxes for firefighters was discussed.

A maximum 100 percent reduction in Earned Income Tax (up to $1,000) and up to 20 percent reduction in township real estate taxes would be allowed for qualifying firefighters.

After some discussion, it was approved for advertisement for next month’s meeting.

Renewal of a temporary mobile home permit for 10524 Old 22 was approved.

Roadmaster Tony Werley reported the driveway and parking lot were paved at the Weisenberg Fields, 9504 Bachelor Road.

Township Administrator Brian Carl reported Weisenberg and Lowhill townships were added to the Spotted Lantern Fly quarantine list.

Carl discussed the possibility of having a zoning workshop with the supervisors, planning commission and zoning hearing board members participating.

The property at 8180 Carpet Road is being cleaned up.

The citation that had been issued will be put on hold for the time being.

Carl has gotten the NFI trucking company to replace the backup beeping sound with blinkers to be a bit quieter.

This, however, does not apply to third party truckers.
