Colonial Regional police say a 14-year-old girl from New York, who was in town to perform at Musikfest, was allegedly assaulted by a North Whitehall man.

Police were dispatched 11:05 p.m. Aug. 7 to Holiday Inn Express, 3375 High Point Boulevard, Hanover Township, for the alleged incident.

The girl and a 15-year-old male told police that a man later identified as Gerald A. Benbow, 48, of Anthony Drive, North Whitehall Township, allegedly approached them on the third floor of the hotel and was talking nonsense, police say.

Police allege Benbow followed the two teens onto an elevator and while in the elevator touched the teen’s breast.

Police say the teens exited the elevator and after making sure she made it to her room, the 15-year-old male followed Benbow to the first floor.

The male confronted Benbow and asked several adults in the lobby to call the police.

Police say the 15-year-old male called police and attempted to stop Benbow from leaving. Benbow allegedly told the teen to move and left the scene on foot. Police arrived on the scene and interviewed witnesses and victims.

They say Benbow returned to the Holiday Inn and officers told him he was under investigation and not to leave.

Benbow was allegedly acting erratic and making statements that made no sense so officers attempted to detain him. Police say Benbow physically resisted and police used the Taser on him several times during the altercation.

Benbow continued to act erratically and was taken to Muhlenberg Hospital for evaluation.

Police say he will be charged, before District Judge James Narlesky, Bethlehem, with indecent assault on a 14-year-old juvenile, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief for property damage during the arrest.
