LOWHILL TOWNSHIP: Activities aplenty at LV Zoo

Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, will host National Honey Bee Day with bee-themed activities Aug. 19.

Stop by the General Store to see the zoo’s honeybees making honey and spot the queen bee.

Arts and crafts day at the zoo is scheduled for Aug. 26.

There will be a wide variety of arts and crafts throughout the zoo including do-it-yourself binoculars, sun catchers, a coloring station and more.

The zoo will be celebrating Leapin’ Lemurs Day with lemur-themed activities Aug. 27.

All these events will offer hands-on interactive experiences, keeper talks and up-close encounters with some favorite animals during the Wonders of Wildlife encounters at all these activities and celebrations at the zoo.

The zoo is also hosting its eighth annual Run Wild 5K and 10K and Family Fun Walk Aug. 20.

The 5K and 10K starts 8 a.m. in the parking lot. Registration begins 7 a.m.

The 1-mile Family Fun Walk starts 9:50 a.m. at the Jaindl Penguin Pavilion.

The Family Fun Walk is an educational walk along the Jordan Creek, through the Trexler Nature Preserve and around the zoo.

Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, is accepting orders until Sept. 10 for its hoagie sale.

Pick up will be 4-6 p.m. Sept. 19.

Choose between regular with everything or no onions or peppers for ham and cheese, turkey, roast beef, tuna or veggie hoagies.

Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Pantry is open 9-11 a.m. the first Saturday of each month and 4-6 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.

Senior citizens are served 10 a.m. to noon the previous Wednesday.

The food pantry, serving Heidelberg, Lowhill, Lynn and Weisenberg townships, accepts donations 9-11 a.m. and by appointment the last Saturday and the third Tuesday of each month.

Donations may also be dropped off at both New Tripoli Bank branches and ESSA Bank.
