UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON
Local students Natalie Krupka and Griffin Mulvihill, both of Allentown, are among University of Scranton students taking first, second and third place awards in competitions at the 2017 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Region 2 Student Activities Conference, held in the spring semester at Rowan University in New Jersey.
Twenty-five Scranton students participated in contests that included robotics, physics, design and student paper and ethics competitions, as well as leadership training.
IEEE Region 2 includes Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., and parts of New Jersey, Ohio and Virginia.
In team competitions, Scranton students Andy Buttner, of Camillus, N.Y., Natalie Krupka, of Allentown, Mark Pawelski, of Throop, Lackawanna County, John Radetich of Sewell, N.J, and Zachary Walsh, of Rockville Centre, N.Y., earned first place in the micromouse kit competition.
Ricky Olechna, of Scranton, Brad Hodousek, of Howell, N.J., Chris Gasper, of Jessup, Lackawanna County and Matt Collier, of Whitehall, earned second place in the micromouse scratch competition. Joseph Delmar of Flourtown, Montgomery County, Griffin Mulvihill, of Allentown, Ben Loya, of Bethel, Conn. and Joshua Toth of Jefferson Township, earned second place in the physics competition.
Andrew Berger, Ph.D., professor of physics/electrical engineering, serves as both the counselor and club mentor of The University of Scranton IEEE Student Branch.
The IEEE Student Activities Conference is held at a different university/college in the Mid-Atlantic region each year.
