Fair queen to crown successor

Allentown Fair Queen Juliet Long, of New Tripoli, will crown the 2017 queen Aug. 13, just a few weeks before she is introduced at the 165th Great Allentown Fair.

Contestants are from Lehigh, Northampton and Berks counties. The ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate enthusiasm for the Allentown Fair, local farming and the agricultural industry.

The Lehigh County Agricultural Society, a nonprofit organization, has been operating the fair for 165 years,

The new Allentown Fair Queen will be introduced at the fair’s annual opening ceremonies Aug. 29.

Women 16 to 20 years of age may enter the competition that awards a $1,000 scholarship from Lehigh-Northampton Pomona Grange 68 to the winner.

She will reign over various activities at the upcoming Allentown Fair running Aug. 29 to Sept. 4.

The queen’s activities include promoting the fair’s purpose all year at events and speaking at engagements throughout the community.

She will also vie for the title of Pennsylvania State Fair Queen in Hershey in January 2018, a position that involves visiting fairs throughout the commonwealth during the summer months of 2018.
