BETHLEHEM SPECIAL OLYMPICS is in need of coaches for several different sports: rhythmic gymnastics head coach, aquatics, bowling, basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball and young athletes. Volunteers should be able to make most weekly practices, have basic skills and know how to play that particular sport. CENTER FOR CAREER PATHWAYS AND LITERACY, LCCC-Allentown needs volunteer tutors for its adult literacy and education program which provides free classes and services to people seeking their GED. Work one-on-one and in small groups. Day and evening tutors needed and schedule is flexible. Must have bachelor’s degree in any field and clearances are required. LEHIGH COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY, Allentown is in need of volunteers to help run its “Clear the Shelter Day and Open House,” 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.” Aug. 19. The society will be working with NBC News to find homes for cats and dogs in their shelter. LEHIGH VALLEY HEALTH NETWORK MARATHON FOR VIA, Lehigh Valley is looking for volunteers (age 12 and over) 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept 9 to hand out runners packets at ArtsQuest. Help is also needed between 6 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10 to be course marshals, staff water stations or distribute food to the runners at the finish line. Shift times and locations vary. MEALS ON WHEELS OF LEHIGH COUNTY, Allentown is looking for volunteers (18 and over) to distribute meals to homebound individuals 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Teams of two deliver to 33 routes throughout Lehigh County. Drive a route or ride along as a visitor. Bring a friend and form a team or let us provide a partner for you. THE SALVATION ARMY OF THE GREATER LEHIGH VALLEY is looking for volunteers to assist with a backpack event and distribution. Help provide a few hours of fun as kids get ready to go back to school. UNITED WAY OF THE GREATER LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown is seeking volunteers are needed to do community canvassing for their “Challenge 5” Campaign. Challenge 5: Strive for Less Than 5” is a valley-wide attendance awareness campaign that addresses chronic absenteeism among elementary school students. Canvassers will go to local businesses, shops, organizations, etc. to seek permission for putting up posters and lawn signs and ask for donations of product or services to be used as incentives for good/improved school attendance.
