Students of the Year awards presented
Northampton Exchange Club, at its June 8 dinner meeting, closed the chapter of 2016-17 Service to Youth program, citing Brandy Moser as Girl of the Year and Conlan P. Keefe as Boy of the Year. The club heralds a Northampton Area High School senior boy and girl as the monthly recipient, September through May.
Jovani A. Datis-Cordero was accorded the A.C.E (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) award, excelling after a serious football injury in his junior year and determined to rebound in academics and other sports.
Each recipient was given a $500 scholarship and a engraved plaque.
Dr. Rodger Berg, program chairman, said the annual Student of the Year recipients have demonstrated not only academic accomplishment, but also a commitment to serve others. Berg said their essays, “Inspiring a Community To Be a Better Place,” were outstanding; the essays are now forwarded to the Exchange District Competition. The graduating seniors read their essays at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, where the event was held, to an appreciative audience.
