SENIOR RIDES

According to the Northampton County Area Agency on Aging, a new program for seniors provides rides without them having to use public transportation or a taxi.

GoGoGrandparent was founded by a young man living with his grandmother who didn’t want a smartphone but wanted to use a ride service. The national company provides rides with companies such as Uber and Lift without the rider having to use a smartphone to use an on-demand car service.

A prospective rider may call 1-855-464-6872 toll-free. The operator will ask for a credit card and the home address. When a ride is needed, recall the phone number and, using the automated system, press the number for a pickup at the address given previously. There are other options, such as a pickup from the drop-off location. Gift cards are available.

Drivers are vetted; the rider is given in advance the driver’s name and any pertinent information. There is a small concierge fee. This fee and the cost of the ride (Uber /Lyft fee, etc.), about 35 percent less than the cost of a taxi, are charged to the rider’s card.
