Orefield man charged after road rage incident

An 18-year-old Orefield man was charged with aggravated assault and making terroristic threats after he was allegedly involved in a road rage incident just before 8 p.m. July 29 on I-78 East, Greenwich Township, Berks County.

State Police Troop L, Hamburg, say troopers were dispatched to the area after a 67-year-old Whitehall man reported a passenger in another vehicle, later identified as Frank John Clark V, 18, allegedly showed a handgun during the incident.

Police say the Whitehall man told them he was driving in the left lane when a vehicle came up fast in the right lane and made an unsafe lane change cutting him off.

The Whitehall man said he honked his horn and then the rear seat passenger on the driver’s side allegedly produced a silver handgun in response, police say.

Police say the Whitehall man dialed 911 and obtained a vehicle description and registration.

He continued to follow the vehicle at a safe distance and updated his location to State Police Troop L and then State Police Troop M, Fogelsville.

Police say both vehicles were stopped by troopers from State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, and Fogelsville on Route 22 near Bethlehem Township.

According to police, all four occupants of the fast approaching vehicle, which included Clark, were removed from inside.

Police allege a silver BB gun, a replica of a handgun, was found.

Clark was taken into custody by troopers from Hamburg and transported to Berks County.

Charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct were also filed against Clark V, police say.
