LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
At the July 20 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, a resolution was proposed for the Fields at Indian Creek to allow for 23 more units which would be built outside of Lower Macungie Township. The concern for this adjustment and additional buildings revolves around traffic concerns with Indian Creek Road having the only entrance and exit to this development.
Solicitor Richard Somach suggested this resolution be tabled as it was apparent the commissioners were not in favor of it. It was suggested another access road be developed to alleviate the future traffic congestion for Indian Creek Road.
The Lower Macungie Township Library provided a report on its status to the commissioners. There are 440 kids enrolled in the summer reading program. This program is for infants to eighth grade. There is a new program for teenagers for volunteering.
A representative from Meals on Wheels sent a letter of gratitude for the contribution of $6,000.
A resident sent a letter to the township complimenting the paving and traffic control in the township at Sauerkraut Lane.
The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society’s open house was well attended
The borough of Emmaus has written to the township about establishing a multi-municipal comprehensive plan.
A resident wrote about an uninhabited farmhouse along Trexlertown Road which he owns with historical value. It has been severely vandalized. He invited the commissioners to see the damage and is considering a reward for anyone having knowledge of who would have caused this.
The new light at the new intersection for the relocated Schoeneck Road is functioning now. The old Schoeneck Road at Route 100 will become a right in and right out only. This road will be renamed Dragonfly Lane. It is presently closed for further redesign of the road.
Truck traffic continues to be a problem for township residents. New roads to request no trucks are Locust Lane, Walbert Lane and Elm Lane. An ordinance is being drafted.
Traffic signal modifications of a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Resolution for signal modification at Willow Lane and Route 100 are in progress.
An ordinance for the medical marijuana industry is being advertised. This is for zoning changes.
Advertising will begin for zoning changes along Hamilton Boulevard between Kressler and Grange Roads for drive-thru service establishments and fast-food restaurants.
